The Major Causes Of Unwanted Body Fat, Chapter 2 -- Part One
In The Major Causes Of Unwanted Body Fat article you will discover exactly why for so many people, especially after they turn thirty, weight gain seems to be the norm, rather than the exception. From my personal experience, the number one reason for weight gain is that the human body is simply way too efficient! Most of us do not really need that much food to maintain our current body weight.
The majority of people seem to have been born with an endomorph-dominant body type, and have a naturally slow metabolism. With age, the body's calorie burning ability slows down even more, and even less calories are needed! The second most important reason is obviously that the people that are having difficulties controling their weight & unwanted body fat -- consume more calories than their bodies can realistically burn on a regular basis! And the third, and final reason for weight gain, is that many people are not using physical activity like cardio training and weight training to help their bodies to burn the excess calories that are the consequences of the first two reasons! The fact is that most people’s bodies do not need that much energy to maintain their weight at rest, and plus when they are exercising, their body is amazingly economical when it comes to turning food into motion. This is especially true if you have an endomorph dominant body type, and have problems losing unwanted body fat! At rest, the average human body burns about 12 calories per pound of body weight per day (26 calories per kilogram). That means if you weigh 150 pounds (68 kilograms), your body uses only about 1800 calories per day. These 1800 calories are used to do everything that your body needs to stay alive, and to keep functioning properly on a daily basis -- including keeping your heart beating, keeping your internal organs operating properly, keeping your brain functioning, and keeping your body warm. In motion, the human body also uses energy (calories) very efficiently. For example a person that runs a marathon and weighs 150 pounds, will burn only 100 calories per mile (about 62 calories per km). If we compare a human body to a car, and imagine that we could drink gasoline instead of eating hamburgers to take in calories, we could run 26 miles on about one-twelfth of a gallon of gas, meaning that we would get more than 300 miles per gallon (120 km/L)! If we put ourselves on a bicycle to increase efficiency, we could get well over 1,000 miles per gallon (500 km/L)! This level of efficiency is without a doubt, the main reason why it is so easy to gain weight & unwanted body fat. Since most people do not count their daily calorie intake, they over-consume on calories and this surplus is converted to unwanted body fat.
In fact, if your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) is 1800 calories per day, you could go to your neighborhood Fast Food Restaurant and order a large sandwich (about 700 calories) a large French fries (about 550 calories) and a large Coke (about 300 calories), and "almost" get your entire daily requirement of calories in one meal! This one meal will provide your body with about 1550 calories. If you add one of the ice cream deserts, you will get around 600 more calories, for a total of 2150 calories! The point here is not to slam these products or make them look like they are the "main reason" that many people are overweightor have unwanted body fat. The main point that I am trying to make is that it is really easy to go over your daily calorie limit if you do not know exactly how many calories are in the food and beverages that you consume on a daily basis. Your body is not only efficient at using calories to keep itself functioning properly, it is also extremely efficient at capturing and storing these excess calories that come from the food and beverages that you consume on a daily basis. When your organism finds that it has excess calories on hand, it simply converts them to body fat, which gets driven into your fat cells, where it is saved for a rainy day. It only takes 3,500 excess calories to create one pound of new body fat. If you are taking in just 500 calories per day, then you are gaining a pound of body fat every week. Since it is easy to get 500 calories from eating just one ice cream, from a convenience store, for example, you can see that weight gain is completely effortless in today’s society. You have to take into account that one day of eating in fast food restaurants can easily produce an intake of 3,000, 4,000 or even 5,000 calories! When the "efficiency" of the human body is "combined" with the daily "over-consumption" of calories that come from delicious, high calorie foods and beverages -- it becomes obvious that this is what eventually causes long term weight gain!
