Can I increase my metabolism by drinking less beverages?
What is one of the most overlooked ways to increase my metabolism? This is one of the questions I am asked quite frequently. Besides drinking plenty of water, drinking fewer calories from beverages is one of the most overlooked ways to increase the calorie burning ability of your organism. The reason for this is simple, beverages like juice, sport drinks, soda and milk have a very low thermic effect, meaning that your body does not have to spend its energy to digest and utilize the calories in these beverages. Plus, most people do not add these calories to their daily calorie intakes and are constantly in a daily calorie surplus. Whenever you consume more calories during the day than your body burns, will end up as body fat. So by drinking less of your calories from beverages, drinking more water, and eating real food, you can increase your metabolism and burn more body fat during the day. Real food has a higher thermic effect, and your body has to burn calories just to digest and utilize it. Water has no calories, and is needed by your body to function properly. In fact, when you are dehydrated this slows down your body’s fat burning abilities.
