At some point in our lives most of us will attempt to lose weight and remove stubborn belly fat from our mid-sections. Unfortunately most of us do not know how to go about losing belly fat safely and often resort to starving ourselves or simply not eating for long periods of time.
Sure this may work at first but in the long term only leads to yoyo dieting and health issues. Lets take a look at 3 proven ways you can melt away that stubborn belly fat from your mid-section.
Smarter Food Choices
The key to losing weight and getting rid of belly fat is to eat in a calorie deficit. This basically refers to taking in less calories than your body needs throughout a typical day, forcing it to burn fat.
Without a calorie deficit in your diet you will never lose weight so it’s important to remove calorie dense and high fat foods from your diet. Replace them with healthier and lower calorie alternatives such as fruit, vegetables and lean protein sources such as chicken or fish.
Instead of reaching for a bag of crisps or a doughnut as a snack try eating a piece of fruit. Stop your bad eating habits and overtime you will see results from doing this.
So we have now established that a calorie deficit is the number one way to melt away belly fat but how do we consistently eat in a calorie deficit everyday? The best way is to track your calories. Track every piece of food you consume in a typical day and write down the number of calories it contains. If you find your not losing weight then reduce your calories.
Cardio!
It’s important to note that exercise is not required to lose weight and burn off belly fat but it can help speed the process up and make your job a lot easier. Any type of exercise that gets you out of breath slightly is suitable as long as you are consistent with your workouts. Regular exercise will burn additional calories and help raise your body’s metabolism.
By kick starting your metabolism through cardio and exercise you will increase the rate at which your body burns calories when at rest, helping you burn even more calories throughout the day.
If you are out of shape and have never performed any proper exercise before then it’s probably best to ease yourself into it gradually. Start by exercising twice a week. Once you get into the swing of things increase it to 3,4 or even 5 days a week.
Weight Training
Weight training is another great way to help you burn away that stubborn belly fat. Similar to cardio, weight training will burn calories (not quite as many as cardio) and increase your metabolism.
If you are a complete beginner the chances are you will gain muscle while burning off belly fat at the same time. It’s also worth noting that the more muscle mass you have the more calories your body will naturally burn.
When consuming a calorie deficit, regular weight training can help prevent your body from burning off valuable muscle tissue instead of fat. Just like cardio, you will want to ease yourself into weight training gradually, especially if you have never performed any kind of strenuous activity before.
