What exactly is a GI diet, and does it help with weight loss?
A GI diet is a nutrition program, where you consume carbohydrates that are low on the glycemic index. Food that is low on the glycemic index produces small fluctuations in your blood glucose and insulin levels. But the whole idea behind this nutrition strategy is based on eating these carbohydrates in a fasted state and without combining them with protein and dietary fat. When you eat carbohydrates together with the other nutrients, the GI index loses its significance because the protein and dietary fat slows down the breakdown of the carbohydrates into your bloodstream. The Glycemic Index diet was designed for people with diabetes, so that they could control their insulin levels by eating food that produces small fluctuations in their blood glucose. In our section
The Glycemic Index,
we cover this nutrition approach in a little more detail. But for people who follow a balanced nutrition program, and combine all the necessary nutrients for their organism to function properly, should not follow a low GI diet. To find out how to lose weight using an effective motivation, nutrition and exercise strategy, and keep it off in the long term, we suggest to start with the information on our
