Four Essential Habits for Greater Health

Taking charge of my health is very important to me. I had always enjoyed good health. But after having my two youngest children in my late thirties and early forties I noticed I had gained a lot of inches and my energy level had gone down. I knew I had to do something to change that. It has been four years since those changes. Today I look and feel better than I was when I was in my thirties. Here are the six habits I had found essential to greater health and vitality.

1) Hydration– The first habit is drinking water throughout the day. Drinking enough water, not juice or shake or any kind of liquid, but good clean water is very essential to good health. We are made of 70% water, not juice or shake some other form of liquid. Water is very essential for all proper cellular functions in our body. Water is also needed for cleaning out toxins in our body. So how much water is sufficient? I have found that drinking half our body weight of water in fluid ounces is the proper amount. It may sound like a lot especially if you are not a water drinker. I was not a water drinker either until I realized how important water is for total health. I decided to have a water bottle with me wherever I go. Before I knew it, I drank up about 66 to 100 ounces of water by the end of the day. I started with what I usually drink and I add more and more till I have achieved the amount required. It was a conscious effort to develop a habit to drink the amount of water daily for me to achieve the results I desire.

2) Exercise– This habit is essential for the benefits in cardiovascular, in muscle strength and in flexibility while burning calories (depending upon the intensity of your exercise. Start at a low level of intensity and build up. Always start with a ten minute warm before going into your level of exercise and then a ten minute cool down. These warm up and cool down steps are very essential to prevent cardiac arrest. The key to success in developing this habit is finding an exercise that you enjoy and that would target the areas that you are concern with. For years I tried different types of exercise and they only lasted a week or two. They did not motivate me. They were not fun for me. Then I discover Water Aerobics.

I had tried several different instructors and realized how different each instructor’s style was. I only like the one I presently go to. We work with music. We use water buoys (regular and Jumbo size), bands, leg buoys, weights (2 and 3 lbs.), water shoes and water gloves. Of course everyone of these equipment are optional. Each equipment adds a more resistant in the workout. The buoyancy provided by water helps protect your joints from shock and impact which are usually associate with land exercise on land. It is excellent for physical therapy and fitness. It is ideal environment for relieving arthritis pain and stiffness. You get greater resistance than land exercise thereby help build strength. Your body is supported by water making it easier exercise, less pain- from simple to those that are nearly impossible on land.

3) Alkaline Diet– I am ever thankful I was brought up in the habit of eating a balanced diet. Proper diet and exercise go hand in hand in maintain total health. Exercise and proper nutritional diet, also help in: -mental focus, decreased in the risk of heart attack, increased energy, alleviate stress, increase self esteem, decrease in risk of osteoporosis, reduce the risk of breast cancer and many more. Eat plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, and whole grains in your diet. Eat less meat and avoid soda/pop completely. Soda is very acidic therefore promotes poor health. For maintaining a health eat 60% alkaline food and 20 % acidic foods, and for improving your health eat a 80% alkaline foods to 20 % acidic foods.

Here is a list of some highly alkalize foods- Asparagus, Onions, Vegetable Juices, Parsley, Raw Spinach, Broccoli, Garlic, Barley, Beets greens, Brussel sprouts, Chives, Peppers, radish, rhubarb, leeks, peas, turnips, watercress, Lemons, Watermelon, Limes, Grapefruit, Mangoes, Papayas, Olive Oil, Herb Teas, Lemon Water and more. Alkalinity in our body pH promotes good health.

4) Mineral Supplements– We no longer get the vital minerals from the fresh fruit and vegetables like we use to years ago due to the depletion of these essential minerals in our soil. Therefore minerals supplement is important to add to our daily diet to compensate for insufficient vital minerals in the foods today. Not all mineral supplements have the same quality or absorbability. When taking supplements more water intake is required.

I have found drinking a mineral water like X2O promotes alkalinity our body pH, replaces all the vital minerals and electrolytes my body needs and provides the cellular hydration. Practice these four habits daily to promote greater health and you will be able to enjoy a life of abundant health.
