Food High in Protein

Food high in protein includes turkey breast, chicken breast, lean red meat, fish, and shellfish.

Dairy products also contain protein, but during the weight loss phase of your program you should choose the low fat/ non fat varieties and consume them in moderation.

The reason for this is simple: dairy products contain a simple carb called lactose, and all simple carbohydrates are digested very quickly by your body and cause a rapid rise in your blood sugar.

Once you ingest the simple sugar into your bloodstream, you feel a quick rush of energy.

When your body senses this rapid rise in blood sugar, it releases a large amount of insulin to clear the large amount of glucose out of your bloodstream.

Even though dairy products contain protein and dietary fat which slow down the breakdown of the simple carbohydrates, when you are in the weight loss phase of your program it is important to consume fruits and dairy products in small amounts.

Once you reach your ideal weight, you can eat more of these foods, but if you have an endomorph dominant body type, the majority of your calories should come from complex starchy and fibrous carbohydrates.

Food high in protein like turkey breast, chicken breast, lean red meat, fish, and shellfish should be consumed according to the 50-30-20 nutrient ratio.

This means that 50% of your daily calories should come from carbohydrates, 30% from lean protein and 20% from dietary fat.

Eating meals that are made according to these numbers will provide all the nutrients that your body needs to function properly and will allow you to lose weight in the long term.

Consuming 30% of your daily calories from lean protein will allow you to create a small calorie deficit on a daily basis, because your body has to expand a lot of calories to digest and utilize protein.

This small deficit will lead to long term weight loss, and can help you to create a lean, healthy body.
