When you get started on a weight loss diet something strange happens. Your fat body is not completely overjoyed to shed its fat content. Instead of losing pure weight you start to lose the good bits such as bone density & muscle.

A current research study carried out in Europe, and reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that when men dieted correctly less than 60% of the weight lost was fat. The remainder was lean tissues. When men regained weight only 24% of the weight readded was lean muscle – over 75% of the added weight after having lost weight was more fat. That means for people who yo-yo diet – living in a constant change of weight loss and then adding it back on again – the muscle in their body are over a period of time being replaced by fat.

The same research indicated that the picture for females is even worse! During the fasting period 35% of the loss was lean tissue – originally less than for men. BUT when regaining weight only 15% was lean tissue. When women lost and then readded weight, lean tissue was not satisfactorily regained – 85% of the weight regained was fat!.
