How many calories per pound
of body fat?

There are 3500 calories per pound of body fat.

This number is very important for those that want to create a lean, healthy body and to maintain it for life.

The reason why this is so important is really simple: when you take into account the law of energy (calorie) balance you become aware that every calorie that you consume more than your body burns gets converted to body fat.

The opposite is also true, but only to a certain extent. When you drop your calories drastically your body will slow down your metabolism to compensate for the calorie deficit.

Of course this will not happen after one day of low calorie dieting, but after 3 days of low calorie dieting your organism will start to trigger different mechanisms to slow down its calorie burning abilities.

Mostly this happens through the process where it burns your muscle as an energy source.

Since muscle is a metabolically active tissue and your body needs to spend energy (calories) to maintain it, by burning its muscle your body needs less calories to keep functioning properly.

This is why you must do everything to stay away from low calorie dieting and use other approaches for losing unwanted body fat.

From my experience, exercise is the best way to burn body fat. Cardio training is without a doubt the ultimate way to lose weight permanently.

Weight training is also very important because it helps you to maintain your muscle while you are losing weight by doing cardio.

When you lose weight there will always be some loss of muscle, and weight training helps you to maintain your muscle mass, thus keeping your metabolism elevated during the weight loss phase of your program.

Since there is 3500 calories per pound of body fat, the ultimate way to reach ideal weight is to consume the same amount of calories that your body burns during the day, and to use exercise to burn the unwanted body fat you want to lose.

Even if it takes you two years to reach your ideal weight and create the body of your dreams, eventually this will become a reality.

Using ineffective approaches that promise fast and quick fast loss you will only create short term weight loss, lose muscle, slow down your metabolism and eventually regain everything you lost and plus a few more pounds of body fat on top.

Do not fall for the hype and promises that try to convince you that you can create long term weight loss results by using a low calorie approach, or by eating a certain nutrient in the right amounts or anything else which sounds too good to be true.

Stick to the basics and fundamentals of proper nutrition and exercise and burn those 3500 calories per pound of body fat little by little eating right and doing exercise on a regular basis.
